Traffic Accident in Fairburn Kills One and Injures Seven Others

A man died, and seven people sustained injuries following a traffic accident in Fairburn on Interstate 85. The crash involving a tractor-trailer happened on Thursday, December 9th. Following too closely appears to have caused the accident.

According to a news report, a tractor-trailer slammed into several vehicles. The Fairburn Police Deputy Chief Anthony Bazydlo said the wreck occurred at about 4 p.m. The preliminary investigation revealed that traffic stopped in front of the tractor-trailer. However, the tractor-trailer could not stop in time and rear-ended three to five vehicles.

The police investigators and the Georgia State Patrol said the tractor-trailer was in the fourth lane from the median wall before the accident. However, the authorities confirmed that the tractor-trailer followed the other vehicles too closely. The traffic accident in Fairburn sent eight people to the Grady Memorial Hospital, one of them arriving via helicopter.

The airlifted victim, identified as 66-year-old Jerome Miller, later died from his injuries. There is no update on the condition of the remaining seven injured people. The collision blocked all the southbound lanes for about an hour, causing traffic to pile up for miles behind the crash.

One lane reopened at about 5 p.m., and the second lane stayed closed until 9 p.m. It is not clear if the tractor-trailer driver is facing charges.
